چکیده

Accurate classification of terrestrial and non-terrestrial volcanic landforms requires a robust suite morphometric parameters. The Small-volume Monogenetic Igneous Landforms Edifices Statistics (SMILES) catalog contains the characterizations mafic small-volume was created using uncrewed aerial system photogrammetry, open-source LiDAR, digital elevation model repositories. This study analyzed 20 simple maars, 22 lava collapse features, 24 ring scoria cones, spatter (fissure point source ramparts), high-resolution (<0.1–5 m/pixel) models to establish what dimensionless parameters enable remote identification studied landforms. Parameters include isoperimetric circularity, depth ratio (crater depth/major chord), interior slope angles, as well crater base ratios for area, perimeter, major chord lengths. were limited basal width <2 km <1 3 cones landforms, 2 or less features maars. Simple maars have an aspect (AR) (>0.74), circularity (IC) (>0.90), angle (<47°), (<0.26) creating distinct range Lava exhibit wider variability in AR (0.26–0.95), IC (0.46–0.98), (up 16–86°), (0.25–0.52). Scoria cone craters (>0.54), (>0.81), (<34°), lower (<0.25). Spatter (0.25–0.94), (0.43–0.98), (<63°), (0.04–0.37). crater/base area perimeter than demonstrates that while individual parameter is not diagnostic recognizing remotely, is. Towards an Ontology of Landforms

The paper begins with the question “Do mountains exist?” It shows that providing an answer to this question is surprisingly difficult, and that the answer which one gives depends on the context in which the question is posed. Mountains clearly exist as real correlates of everyday human thought and action, and they form the archetype for geographic objects. Yet individual mountains lack many of ...

Mars: Review an D Analysis of Volcanic Eruption Theory and Relationships to Observed Landforms

We present a theoretical treatment of the ascent, emplacement, and eruption of magma on Mars. Because of the lower gravity, fluid convective motions and crystal settling processes driven by positive and negative buoyancy forces, as well as overall diapiric ascent rates, will be slower on Mars than on Earth, permitting larger diapirs to ascend to shallower depths. This factor also favors a syste...

Modelling cockpit karst landforms

The purpose of this article is to present a model of the formation processes of cockpit karst landscapes. The CHILD software was used to simulate landscape evolution including dissolution processes of carbonate rocks. After examining briefly how the CHILD model operates, two applications of this model involving dissolution of carbonate rocks are presented. The simulated landscapes are compared ...

Post-Mining Landforms ― Engineering a Biological System

The construction of cover systems on decommissioned tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps can represent one of the largest cost components of a mine closure project. There have been great advances in the understanding of the hydrology of cover systems in recent years, but some uncertainties in long-term performance remain. This paper describes some of the changes in engineering chara...
